There are two very favorable trees, associated with longevity. These are bamboo and pine. They are much loved and respected in China and Japan, being a favorite theme in almost all branches of art and craft.

Bamboo

Bamboo is probably the big favorite, being very often featured in Chinese art, poetry and literature. The Chinese believe that bamboo possesses mysterious powers and, if hung in the home, can ward off evil spirits.

Made into wind chimes and whistles, bamboo can be used as a powerful antidote to negative chi. Because it is always green and blooms all year round, bamboo symbolizes longevity, durability and strength.

It grows well in all areas of China, but also in many other parts of the world. It is very useful to have a bunch of bamboo to represent the dragon, on the left side of the house, and if they are planted behind the house, they symbolize solid support, bringing good luck, especially for those involved in business.

Planted near the front of the house, bamboo attracts favorable chi flow. Grown elsewhere, it represents longevity and health.

Choose varieties acclimated to your country or region. If you don’t have a large garden, look for smaller varieties or purchase decorative bamboos, which can be grown in pots.

Avoid planting bamboo that has been artificially prevented from growing, but don’t let it get excessively large either; none of these cases are considered auspicious.

For better Feng Shui, always remove anything that is old or dead. If that sounds too complicated, look for slower-growing varieties, which have tall, leafy stems.

It is quite possible that the pine is the oldest and most famous symbol of longevity, especially due to its perennial character.

It is often planted next to the cypress and, since none of these species withers, even in the harshest winters, it symbolizes eternal friendship, which is needed in the most desperate need.

Pine trees, in particular, are associated with fidelity and loyalty, which is why they have become extremely frequent motifs in landscape painting and Eastern poetry.

It is great to plant a pine in the garden. Place it near the house, preferably at the back. Thin its branches if you don’t want it to grow too large, or shape its shape to suit the style of your garden.

Always choose the variety suitable for the garden in question. There are many different species of perennial plants, from the magnificent juniper to the much more decorative Christmas tree. However, be careful, because these trees grow very tall. For small gardens, choose dwarf varieties.

It is said that some American Indian tribes use pine branches to purify the energies where they live.

Interestingly, instead of pine, the Chinese use bamboo for the same purpose.

Furthermore, there is an ancient custom according to which, during the gloomy days of winter, pine branches or other perennial trees are brought into the house, to symbolize life. This tradition has survived to this day, in the form of the Christmas tree.
