For centuries, or rather millennia, the mountain has represented a sacred space for most civilizations, a place of manifestation of divinity, but also of initiation, a refuge for those who have escaped from the world, for those who want to discover themselves. It is therefore not surprising if, to talk about a theme such as introspection, I chose an Alpine-themed arrangement, obviously signed by Elegans…

A piece of wood topped by an entire scaffolding of Alpine elements, such as branches and pine cones, oak leaves and acorns, ivy cords, fern leaves, wild acacia branches, red poppies and white symphoricarpos fruits, this is all that makes up this spectacular and refined Elegans composition, suitable for being displayed, for example, on the fireplace of a luxurious interior, as on a piece of furniture in a rustic setting.

Representing in symbolic language both the «raw material» (the primordial matter of the world) and Knowledge, with a capital letter, wood is the basis of this vegetal construction, just as the thirst for spiritual knowledge and self-knowledge is the starting point of every introspection, of every initiation.

Obviously, however, “wanting” is not enough to be successful. To make this complicated «cake» many other «ingredients» are needed. Among the most important are, of course, patience, firmness, perseverance, sincere and unreserved attachment to the cause pursued, all expressed in this context by the presence of pine branches.

The cones, however, like most symbols, have a general meaning, that of glorifying fertility, which can be interpreted at various levels.

In the present case we will take into account the spiritual one, since it is therefore a question of a fruitfulness of the mind, that is, of creativity, ingenuity and imagination.

According to the same scheme, we will then interpret the ivy as a sign of contemplation and depth of thought, associating at the same time oak leaves and acorns with the values ​​of verticality, which make this sacred tree an emblem of revelation, of communication between worlds, but also of permanence, of the power to overcome obstacles, of permanence, all equally necessary in the proposed approach.

Wild acacia, whose hard wood is one of the least perishable materials in nature, is considered by most of the cultures that know it as a symbol of perpetuity, of rebirth, of initiation into the great mysteries, of the immortality of the spiritual essence, of that divine spark hidden in each of us.

As for the fern, our fairy tales attribute to this cryptogamous plant a magical flower that would open only on the night of Sanziene and which would grant the owner all kinds of miraculous powers: invisibility, discovery of treasures, opening of locks, understanding the language of birds and animals…

So this is also a symbol of initiation, of discovery of secrets.

And, finally, the rose, the wild relative of the rose, present here through its fruits, constitutes the crowning glory of our symbolic building, the result towards which all research tends. It represents wisdom, discretion, inner beauty, harmony, modesty and generosity, that is, exactly the virtues that a man truly realized by self-knowledge must possess.

Moral? To reach the High you must descend into yourself and travel the longest and most important road in life, the one towards your fulfillment as a human being!
